BAND CONCERT.
There was a very meagre attendance at last night’s concert in aid of the Borough Band’s funds. Whether such scant patronage was due to the strike microbe or counter attractions we cannot say, but it is regrettable that the public should evince so little Interest in and practical sympathy for such a deserving local institution. The result cf last night’s special effort to “raise the wind” was indeed disappointing and reflects upon that due appreciation which the band has a right to expect from townspeople. Those who did attend were delighted with the bill-of-fare and were keenly appreciative. The first portion of the programme consisted ot a varied picture programme. Those who contributed to the second half were: Mr Betty’s glee party, a well-balanced set of vocalists who are an attractive feature at local concerts ; a new star vocalist was unearthed in Mr H. Signal, who possesses a mellow baritone and his items were much appreciated ; the other contributors included Messrs Hornblow. Buglass, Osborne and a clog dance by Mr D. Knewstub. The accompanists were Misses Signal, Jenks, Ebbett and Messrs McHattie and Signal. Mr E- Murphy, the baud treasurer, briefly thanked the performers and the audience, for their presence and regretted that there were not a larger attendance. A special word ot praise is due to Messrs Osborne, Knewstub and Murphy for their efforts in working up the concert.
