SHANNON.

(Own Correspondent)

The new Gillandia Hall was opened on Friday night with a Catholic concert and dance. The Hall is very well appointed, with a high ceiling, built chiefly for the purpose of picture entertainments. The following ladies and gentlemen contributed to the programme ; —■ Miss Taurvig, Mrs Sharp, Mrs Hall, Miss Mumford, Miss Bessie McDonald, Miss Mabie Bishop, M>s Costello, Messrs Durham, Bovis, Tilling, Hurley, and Master McClevie. The latter delighted the audience with his singing of several very good comic songs, “My Wife’s Cake’’ being particularly good. Mr Hook contributed a violin solo. The star item of the evening was a recitation, “Crossing the Bar,’’ by Miss Mafie Bishop, of Levin. Mrs Daulton played the accompaniments, and the stage management was in the very capable hands of Mr E. Perry. After the concert, the Hall was cleared fer dancing, which was kept up until the small hours of the morning.
