HOLIDAY ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of local business people was held in Mr M. Perreau’s rooms on Tuesday night to discuss the advisability of continuing the association. The Mayor (G. H. Stiles Esq.,) was voted to the chair, and there were present: —Messrs C. Simmons, Barr, Wollerman, Furrie, Hamer, Bauckham, Walker, C. Collins, Retter, Perreau and Healey. The Mayor explained the object of the meeting. He said the Association had been formed two years ago, and had operated successfully during that time. Concerted action had been taken by shop-keepers in reference to closing on certain holidays, and he felt sure they they would all fall into line and continue the Association. There was a small deficit, but this could have beeu liquidated if the subscriptions had been collected. He suggested the setting up of an executive, and a small membership fee of 23 per annum. On the motion of Messrs Bauckham and Furrie, it was resolved that the executive consist of ten members, and the following were duly elected :—Messrs Bauckham, Barr, Betty, Collins, Stiles, Walker, Rimmer, Retter, Simmons and Hamer, five to form of a quorum. Mr C. Simmons was elected secretary and treasurer. It was decided to elect a chairman at a subsequent meeting. It was resolved that all meetings be held in Mr Perreau’s rooms. Resolved that the annual fee be 2s The usual votes of thanks to the Chairman and to Mr Perreau concluded the meeting.
