Messrs Hetmessy (chairman), and Nash (members of the FoxHarbour Board), and bis Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles Esq) gave evidence before the Railways Committee of the House at Wellington yesterday morning, in support of the Board’s petition re the purchase of the local wharf. Mr Gardener was also present, but had to leave and bis evidence will be taken later. The petition set forth that the Board should be given the right to purchase the wharf at or as an alternative the right to construct a new wharf with railway facilities. Mr Robertson M.P. introduced the deputation, and Mr D. Buick was chairman of the committee.

The Chairman of the Board gave a resume of the history of the port. Mr Nash dealt more particularly with the detrimental effect of dual control upon this and the surrounding districts, Mr Stiles dealt with the financial aspect of the question.

The committee subjected the delegates to a good deal of interrogation. The petition comes before the Bills Committee to-morrow.

We shall publish the evidence in full at a later stage.
