A HALF-CASTE’S CRIME.
SHOOTS HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW.
Svdj t ey, Oct. 14
Further particulars of the Woolbrook tragedy near Armidale, where a half-caste named Brown shot his mother-in-law dead, and was himself shot dead by Constable Clarke, who was sent to arrest him, show that when Brown’s wife and two children returned to her mother, Brown followed them, and then ensued a dispute over the children. Mrs Brown sent for a constable, but before his arrival, Brown shot his mother-in-law dead, and fired two shots after his wife, who had taken flight. Both shots passed through her blouse, and she was uninjured. Brown then bolted into the bush. Twenty shots were exchanged between Brown and the policeman, one of them piercing the constable’s helmet before Brown was shot dead.
