CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir.—Being interested in our Band, I would like to know what the bdndmaster has to say about all this dissension. A little while ago the honorary members were convened to settle a dispute as to whether the Band should play at the Royal Pictures. The chairman, after some discussion, said they came to hear the bandsmen s views, but they said nothing. The bandmaster, too, kept silent. Soon after this meeting there leaked out news of a wrangle between the bandsmen touching the decision of the meeting, and finally agreeing to an offer from the Royal to play a programme, but at the appointed time they wrangled again and some men wouldn’t go. I notice now the Royal makes another attempt for the Band, but they won’t now play for either the Royal or Municipal until more developments. Developments of what, I wonder. I noticed, too, as they were playing in front of the Municipal for the charity entertainment the other evening, one bandsman placed his instrument and, music in the centre of the Band, and walked off. I learn now that an important officer of the Band also refused to assist. The question that agitates is, why those burnt instruments were removed from the room, since both sides agree they were removed. And what induced the previous bandmaster to resign. I notice now the ne.w bandmaster has resigned. Has our Band no management committee and has the bandmaster no control thereat. I agree with your correspondent “Harmony” that municipal power should rigorously control the ratepayers Band, and insist that the men must simply do as they are told. “Harmony” has said there are some good players in the Band, but it strikes me the good players are not in the Band. —I am, etc., Observer. (To the Editor.) Sir,— Re reserving seats at the Town Hall for picture entertainments. Could you inform me, and others, through your columns, whether seats can be reserved per telephone and payment made for same at the door on the night of the entertainment ? Also whether it is a fact that reserved notices are placed on seats for certain people without the authority of the hall manager. —Yours, etc.,
Patron,
