SHANNON.
LIVELY OPEN-AIR MEETING. (Own Correspondent.) Messrs Parry, and Stove addressed an open-air meeting on, Saturday night, at w,hich a wag called “Hoppy” created a diversion and kept the audience in a simmer of merriment by his interjections. He repeatedly challenged the statements of the speakers, who had to knock off in order to allow “Hoppy” to have his say. ‘T was saying,” said Mr Stove, after he had been interrupted for about the fiftieth time—- “ Yes,” came an interjection, “you were saying that you rah with the hare and hunted with the hounds!” —“I have had a very strenuous fortnight,” continued the union official, “I have addressed a lot of meetings ” “You look delicate!” (from an auditor, and loud laughter). Then a man on horseback scattered the crowd and commenced to argue the point with the speakers. The whole affair was about the most comic open-air performance yet .witnessed here. It is proposed to hold similar meetings once a fortnight or once a week —it speakers can be induced to face the music. According to the number who were airing their opinions on Saturday night there should be no lack of orators. The agitators haven’t got it all their own way by long odds !”
