ENTERTAINMENTS.
MUNICIPAL PICTURES. Last Saturday night saw a large and enthusiastic audience to witness the programme provided for their entertainment. To mark the appreciation as shown by the constant large attendances, the management has decided for the next three weeks off each Wednesday evening to show an extra special feature film in addition to the ordinary programme. On Wednesday next will be shown the greatest achievement in the realms of living pictures, the beautiful ideal of realism in motion photography and a play of great heart interest; “The Fatal Wedding.” On Wednesday 24th, another feature film, “The Panama Canal,” will be shown, and on the xst October, “Sweet Nell of Old Drury.” The other star film for to-morrow night is the intense and soul stirring drama, “The Heart of a Pierrot,” featuring Miss Asta Nielson in., the. role of a Pierrot. This is an appealing story of a mother’s love which fascinates the audience with a powerful hold till the final scene closes. Another drama which will prove of great interest is the well-known story of “Beau Brummel,” a man who mixed with nobility, but whose career ended badly. The comics are three in number, “The Tenderfoot,” is a delightful story of Western. ways ; “ Over the Back Fence,” a real comedy offering much cleverness ; and “Absent Minded Abe,” a film which- is bound to be a great laugh producer. The educational film is one of Pathe’s beautifully coloured pictures giving one a clear insight into “The Life of a Squirrel.” “Gaumont’s Graphic Gazette,” as usual, is full of interesting items touching recent events that interest : one and all of the community.
THE AMERICAN TRAVESTY
STARS
Direct from Australia by the Willochra last Wednesday, the American Travesty, Stars will make their initial bow before a New Zealand audience at Foxton next Thursday ntght, Sept. 18th. The company, which comprises ten star vaudeville performers, have gained a great reputation in Australia. The Melbourne Punch says : “The American Travesty Stars have firmly established themselves at the Atheneura Hall and are drawing crowded audiences there nightly. Mr Will Walker their cotneiiiad had to respond five times last night to the vociferous applause, his song, ‘I Said Hooray’ fairly bringing the house down. The Gazzas, heavyweight jugglers, performed some uew feats and earned a well merited encore. Miss Rosa Steen, the and mimic, is really a second Fanny Powers which is enough said for this clever young lady.” In addition to these artists are two wellknown New Zealanders, the musicial Blanchards, and lovers of clever and refined musicial cotqedy should not miss their clever turn. They , are too wellknown for further comment to be necessary. The box plan is now open at the town clerk’s office, where seats may be booked without any extra charge, and as there is every indication of a bumper house we should advise our readers to book early and save disappointment.
