TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.

The following report was presented by the Town Clerk at Monday night’s Council meeting ; “I have to report that during the past month the Council’s men have been mainly emplojed as under: with grader trimming and breaking metal in Hovvan and Baker Streets, grubbing wattle in cemetery, planting seeds in triangle, removing soil from Avenue Road. Harbour Street has had the grader over it once and will receive another application before metal is put on it. I have instructed the roadmen to put asphalt in front of Chung Wah’s and where necessary in front of the Moutoa Buildings. I would suggest that in the meantime the footpath between Mr Stiles’ shop and Moutoa Buildings should be sanded and tarred pending the erection of any buildings. On August 15th, ‘the Public Works Committee met to inspect the footpath from Park to Russell Street, where the new concrete kerbing has been put down, and it was resolved to put down three inches of fine metal from the Bowling Club corner to Park Street, and that when the path is ready it should be tarred and that 150 yards of fine metal be obtained lor this work. The gravel was accordingly ordered and the work will be proceeded with as soon as it comes to hand.”
