The Devon is a steel sc ew steamer of 6059 tons gross and 3934 tons net, registered Too A 1 at Dloyds. She was built in 1897 by Hawthorn, Deslie and Co., Dtd., Newcastle, who also supplied the engines. The vessel’s principal dimensions are—Dength 420 ft, beam 54ft, depth 28ft 7in. The Devon is equipped with refrigerating machinery. The Devon’s stern has swung right round to sea, and the seas are breaking clean over her. She is close in shore and the cargo is washing ashore.
