PALMERSTON SITTINGS
At the Palmerston North sittings of the Supreme Court yesterday, Peti Tetua, a Maori woman who killed Joe Graham with a saw after he had shot her adopted daughter, charged with manslaughter, was found not guilty. Sarah M. Carruthers petitioned for a divorce from Thomas Lawson Carruthers on the ground ot adultery. There was no appearance of respondent. A decree nisi was granted, to be made absolute in three months, petitioner to have the custody of the child. Charles Kron was charged with stealing from a man named Patrick Carr, at Pahiatua, on August rst, the sum of and a gold watch. There were three alternative counts—robbery with violence; robbery ; and theft. After a short retirement, the, jury brought in a verdict of not guilty on the first two counts and guilty on the third. Sentence was deferred until the following morning. Walter Gordon McDermott was placed upon trial, charged that on May 31st, 1913, with carnally knowing a girl under the age of 16 years, at Shannon. He pleaded not guilty. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty on the first and second counts —carnally knowing and attempted carnally knowing—and guilty on the third count —indecent assault.
