The Rev. H. Steeley, M.A., the new vicar of Levin, will preach in All Saints’ Church both morning and evening. The services will be as usual at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. to-morrow.
The Riverdale Estate was reopened for flaxcuttiug this week and all the mills that draw their supplies of green leaf from this source will start stripping next week.
Tlic local Stale school Rugby first fifteen, journeyed to Palmerston to-day, to try conclusions with the Terrace End School fifteen. The head teacher is in charge of the lads.
At the Levin musical and dramatic competitions, Miss D. signal secured second prize in the vocal solo section, and Mr T. A. Rimrner second in the cornet solo test.
Dr. Mandl asks us to announce that it would be more convenient and would result in a great saving ot time if persons wishing to be vaccinated would wear loose sleeves when calling to have the operation performed.
The services in the local Methodist Church to morrow will be conducted by the Rev. T. Coatsworth. The subject at the morning service will be, “A Man of God.” A special address will be given to young men at the evening service, the subject being, ‘‘A man who failed once, but won.” A hearty invitation to these services is extended to all.
The services in the Presbyterian Church to-morrow will be conducted in the morning by the minister, Rev. J. M. Thomson, M.A., when he will speak specially on “Our objections and debts to the children.” The Pilgrim’s progress portion deals with “ Formalist and Hypocrisy.” The service in the evening will be conducted by Mr H. D. McCully, and at Oroua Downs hy Mr Rockel, of Tiakitahuua. Professor Braemar is paying a return visit to Foxton and will appear at “ The Royal ” to night and Monday night. Since bis last visit to, Foxton the Professor has appeared in the larger centres to record business and during his Masterton season he played to the biggest house that has ever been known in the Municipal theatre. To-night a complete change of programme will be submitted and the show is deserving of a bumper house. ' The annual Presbyterian School social and prize distribution ceremony took place in the Sunday School hall last night. The Rev. J. M. Thomson presided, and there was a good attendance of adults and little ones. The scholars provided a capital programme of interesting items, the following contributing: Reggie McEwen Joyce Claris, Ella Patterson, Stella Robinson, Ninian Ross, Emmeline Heurickson, Baden Barnett, Mona McEwen, Isey and Madge Patterson, Pearl Thomson, Willie Claris, Claude Cunningharae, Walter McKuight, Nellie Hastie, Miss J. McKnight and E. McEwen. The Rev. Mr Thomson delivered a very interesting address on “pockets.” The prizes were awarded to the successful pupils by the minister. The report, which was of a very satislactory nature, was read by Mr John Speirs, superintendent. Rerteshments were handed round and much appreciated. _ Mrs Patterson presided at the piano.
