Christchurch, June 14. , Yesterday the treasurer of the: - Passive Resisters’ Union telegraphed 'to the Minister pf ; Justice : as ! follbws: —“ Unless. ,the boys* are released, from Ripa Island < Within forty-eight hours a serious ' position will arise# Making preparation for 500 men, and will possibly take possession of military, barracks.” The Hou, James Allen, Minister - • v«f : • Defence, ■■•tepUed. that he was inquiring into the question, and ■ seriously hoped, that the suggested ‘proceedings wbdld not be carried. ' OUt. ■ j-:, i !' r •’ The president ahd vice-president l ' bf the union subsequently stated ; that the treasurer had acted on his own .initiative, and . they emphatically repudiated the threat. ,
