LATEST SUFFRAGETTE SENSATION.
WITNESSED BY THE KING. The suffragettes are still making things merry in England. The latest sensation occurred during the race for the Derby at Epsom this week, when Elizabeth Davidson (a Bachelor of Arts, London University , and a prominent suffragette) jumped through the railings as the King’s horse Anmer was rounding Tattenham corner and threw herself before Agadir and Anmer. She clutched the latter’s bridle. Earl, on Agadir, escaped, but Anmer fell, and Jones, the jockey, was thrown and badly injured. The.woman was thrown under the horse and badly mangled and was removed in an unconscious condition. Their Majesties witnessed the incident and were greatly concerned. Miss Pethick Lawrence (the suffragette leader) interviewed, said that although the deed was a desperate one, no doubt Miss Davidson deliberately ventured her life. Her superhuman courage would call attention to woman’s wrongs. The unfortunate woman has regained consciousness and is progressing favourably.
