A number ot local sports proceeded to the Otaki races to-day. It was reported yesterday that the Indrabarah bad shifted a few feet seawards.
The Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild afternoon will be held at the residence of Mrs Speirs senr., Robinson Street, to-morrow. The Wavsrley Town Board ratepayers have sanctioned a loan to instal a hydro-electric lighting scheme and water and drainage for the area. A team from the local State school proceeded to Palmerston to-day, in charge of the headteacher, Mr Jackson, to compete in the schools football seven-a-side tournament.
There is a likelihood that the local State school will abandon the week’s holiday this month in favour of an extra week during the summer vacation.
The charge of admission to the pit at the Municipal Pictures has been reduced from gd to 6d. This reduction will, no doubt, be appreciated by a large number of patrons. Some thoughtless person emptied carbide into the trough, used for stock purposes at the windmill, the other day or night. Owners of stock would like to take the law into their own hands if the senseless culprit could be discovered. The Feilding Presbyterian Church some years ago abandoned the idea of special efforts for money-raising purposes in favour of a Golden Sunday once a year. The collection on Sunday last totalled ,£l3O. St. IV. pupils of the local State school, in charge of their teacher, Mr Gabites, visited the Herald office last Friday, where a continuation of their history lesson on printing was practically demonstrated, linking up the old with the new. The children were keenly interested in all they saw. Tenders are being called for the erection of the first portion of the new Parliamentary Buildings. This portion comprises new Chambers for both Houses and various suites of rooms, the most important portion of the building held over in the meantime being the library. Mr Healey, local chemist, has been patronised by all sorts and conditions of people for the alleviation of ills real andjjimaginary that human flesh is heir to, but the strangest visitor that has yet crossed his threshold put iu an appearance the other morning in the person of her esteemed highness the cow. The animal was no doubt attracted by the smell of some chemical. After a cursory glance round, the animal made a hurried exit, fortunately for her owner without doing much damage.
