HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the above Society was held in the supperroom of the Town Hall last night. Mr Alex, Speirs (President) presided over a good attendance. The balance-sheet showed that the year opened with a credit balance of £sl 14s 6d ; receipts ,£135 6s, making a total of os fid ; the expenditure totalled £l4l is 1 id, leaving a credit balance of £rs 18s yd. The principal items of receipts were : members fees £\g 7s fid, donations, etc. ,£l4 19s fid, special prizes £8 16s, entrance fees £22 2s 2d, show receipts 5 s 4d. Expenditure; Printing and stationery £24 13s fid, prize money £57 2s 4d, hall hire £g, secretary’s salary and other incidental accounts £SO 6s id. The receipts and expenditure covered the Bulb, Spring and Autumn Shows. The report was read, summarising the Society’s activities since its inception. The report and balance-sheet were lavoprably commented upon and adopted. The secretary read a list of donations promised for the current year. The following officers were elected ;—Patron, Mr A. S. Easton; President, Mr H. Witchell; Vice-Presidents, Dr. Mandl, Messrs G. H. Stiles, P. Hennessy, A. J. Gibbs, H. Greig, B. G. Gower, W. Barber, P. Neylon, John Robinson, Chas. Robinson, W. Ross, G. Rough and Alex. Speirs; Committee, Messrs Hornblow, Galland, Jackson, ..Henderson, Boyes, Newth, Whibley, Kempster, Walsh and Bullard, Mesdames Greig, AustiuJobnstou, Woods, Adams, Boyes, Galland, Misses Neylon, Speirs, Symons and Signal; Auditor, Mr A. J. Kellow ; Secretary, Mr H. C. Patterson ; Treasurer, Miss J. A. Ross. Mr Alex. Speirs was unanimously elected a life member of the Society in recognition of services rendered. The incoming committee were authorised to increase the entrance fees in classes where trophies and prize money exceeded one guinea. Votes of thanks were passed to outgoing officers. It was decided to appoit a sales committee to deal with the disposal of surplus exhibits. A lengthy discussion took place re rules governing judges and it was decided to allow the rules to remain as at present. Mr Hornblow was accorded a vote of thanks for use of room for committee meetings. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
