HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
Mr H. Witchell (vice-president) presided over a well-attended committee meeting of the above society last night. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Ales. Speiis (president), andT. Henderson. The secretary read the audited balance sheet for presentation to the annual meeting. In a covering letter the auditor (Mr Kellow) congratulated the secretary upon the capable way in which the accounts were kept. The only “tag” was in reference to the non production of the minute book to verify a certain item authorised by minute. Severa items of interest were discussed and it was decided to deal with them at the annual meeting. It was decided to call in all promised prize donations to past shows and which the society had paid out, before the annual meeting. The question of increasing the entrance, fees for classes where the prize’ money or trophy exceed one guinea in value, was, after discus-, sion, held over. A sub-committee was appointed to draw up a report for presentation to the annual meeting. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on Friday evening next at a place to be notified by the secretary. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
