FIRES.
Ekktahuna, May 19
A fire iq Main Street at 5.20 a.m. on Sunday destroyed Tumor and Co.’s butchery shop and contents, Mrs Wolfe’s stationer shop and contents, and badly damaged the shop occupied by Wah Kee, fruiterer, and owned by A. H. Herbert, and an empty shop owned by F. C. Tumor. The recently installed high pressure water supply was instrumental in checking the further spread of the fire, Insurances: Wolfe, stock and contents, ; Tumor and Co’s, machinery wand fittings, ; buildings owned by F. C, Tumor, j£sis; Wah Kee’s shop, all in the London, Liverpool and Globe.
OUTBREAK IN CARTERTON.
Carterton, May 19.
A fire on Sunday morning at t. 30 destroyed the building occupied byF. S. Savage (cabinetmaker), H. H. Armstrong, (saddler) and Coleman Phillips (solicitor). The' outbreak is a mystery. .‘The building was owned by the late W. Parker’s estate and r? was insured for in the Commercial Union and in the North British. Savage’s stock was-covered by >£ss° in the South British. He lost every thing. Armstrong’s stock was insured in the Queensland for' and the Commercial Union for A i good/deal of. - stock was saved. Phillips’ office . furniture was insured for Only a table and chair was saved.
