CORRESPONDENCE.

(To the Editor.)

Sir. —I read with astonishment in Tuesday night’s paper that a motion moved by Councillor Freeman was rejected, only the proposer and seconder votiug for it. Now, this motion was a progressive one surely ? Councillor Freeman, (we read) moved and Cr. Green seconded, that the Council obtain name plates and have same fixed as required. Our streets have names, I suppose ; and how on earth is a stranger to oar town going to find his way about if those names are not exhibited in a conspicuous place ? But our oldfossilised -do - nothing Borough Council threw out a motion which was at once progressive, an advantage to the town as a town, and quite inexpensive. Are we to go-ahead under the new regime, or do we go-back ? Surely there’s new life in the Council, new initiative, new brains, and surely they will justify their position as members of a local governing body and move in matters as I have mentioned and shake off that hypnotic apathy which has characterised all our previous Borough Councils. We as ratepayers placed them in power in expectation of a great advancement being shown in our town and the removal of the appellation, “Sleepy Foxton.’’ Wake up Foxton Councillors and next time a motion comes up for the betterment of *ur town streets at such little costas this one would have involved, for the sake of strangers . vote for progress. Thanking you Mr Editor. —I am, etc.,
