MOTHER'S HEROIC EFFORT.

Auckland, May 16
A residence at Waitauanui, occupied by Mr and Mrs King and family, was destroyed by fire last night. All escaped except a five-year-old child. Mrs King reentered the burning building, and made an heroic attempt to rescue the child. Roth perished. The charred remains of both were found together.
