An application from a number of settlers for a siding on the tramway at Puki Puki resulted in a desultory discussion! The settlers offered £2O towards! the cost, estimated at £SO. The siding was required principally for the carting of flax, but the fact that a siding was situate at Glen Oroua, half a mile distant, did not seem to warrant this siding. Against this, however, the damage to this road caused by the carting of flax had to be considered. Eventually, on Cr Barber’s motion, it was decided to inform the Puki Puki ratepayers that if they will contribute £3O towards the cost, the Council will put in a siding at the junction of road ; the work to be started when ( money has been paid in.
