Wanganui, April 11

A lad named Ray Purser, twelve years of age, was responsible for a very brave act a couple of days ago, which further demonstrated the value of lifesaving instruction. A perambulator with a young child therein was pushed down the side of the hillock by some mischievous children, with the result that the perambulator aud its little occupant were precipitated into Virginia Take. Young Purser at once went in after the child, and though the water was very deep he succeeded in releasing the infant from the pram and bringing it back to safety.

As an indication of what Purser had to go through it may be stated that the perambulator was not recovered till next day, when it was fished out of thirty feet of water. Purser had recently received a certificate for life saving. Hastings, April 11.

A' motor car, driven by Miss Russell, daughter of Sir William Russell, collided near Stoneycroft with a spring cart driven by John Hasett. , Both were thrown out, and by a strange coincidence each sustained a broken arm, Hasett also had a severe cut on the head. Greymouth, April 12, Ernest Gunn, a waterside worker, married and aged .about 45, while working iu loading the Taviuni, iell down the hold. He was removed to the hospital iu a serious condition.
