SCHOOL EXCURSION

A special meeting of the School Committee was held on Tuesday night to further consider the school excursion to visit the New f Zealand battleship. A circular was read from the Railway Department stating that a special train would leave Foxton at 6 a.m. on Saturday, xgth instant, arriving at Wellington at 12.15. The excursionists would entrain again at 4.15 p.m., arriving at Foxton at 9.58 p.m. The headmaster submitted a list of children and teachers who would undertake the journey. He stated that those going were enthusiastic.

Mr Barber strongly objected to the arrangements. It was too much to ask children to undertake such a journey. He would not allow a child of his to go.

The Chairman said he would like to see the Foxtou-Eongburu special train speeded up in order to connect with the special train leaving Longburn at 6.40 aud which arrived at Wellington at 11.15. He would endeavour to see whether this could be done. The parents were the best judges as to whether their children should undertake the journey and it was for the Committee to carry out their wishes.

Messrs Coley, Speirs, Hussey and the Chairman expressed their willlingness to co-operate with the teachers and make the trip,

The question of seeing that the children were provided with refreshments was then discussed. It was pointed out that parents would see that each child was supplied with sufficient food and an effort would be made to provide them with a hot meal in Wellington. Other details were left in the hands of the Chairman, and those Committeemen who will make the trip.
