matta, ifarra and Warigo met her ten miles down Hobson’s Bay; and dipped flags. The Melbourne’s officers went aboard early, and her decks bore an impressive assemblage ot naval men.
Coaling begins to-morrow, and occupies three days. The festivities take place on Friday.
THE GREATEST FIGHTING CRAFT THAT EVER CROSSED THE LINE. The newspapers refer to the New Zealand as the greatest fighting vessel that has ever crossed the line. She welcomed the destroyers with the signal, “Thank you for coming to meet us.” The destroyers replied: “ Glad to do so.” Immediately on anchoring, calls were exchanged between the captains of the New Zealand and Melbourne.
Captain Halsey (of the New Zealand) also visited RearAdmiral Cresswell and the Hon. G. Tudor, Minister for Defence.
