BOWLING CLUB AFFAIRS.
("To the Editor).
SIR,—I am delighted to learn that the executive of the New Zealand Bowling Association has taught certain members of the Foxton Bowling Club who denied the lady members a vote at a recent meeting, a salutary lesson. Such denial constitutes an outrage on the conduct or virtues which gentlemen should ever concede in this enlightened country to the fair sex ! I would like to ask one or two questions in respect to the extraordinary administration of a public institution. (1) What is the legal status of the proceedings of the meeting at which the ladies were refused a vote ? (2) It the rules state that the joining fee is los and the annual subscription two guineas, when did the Club make the alteration to the rule governing this point, enabling members to join on payment ot one guinea after January ? I don’t say that a reduction is not justified, but, in my humble opinion, the committee have not the power to make such reduction without the consent oj the Club. The committee may do minor things in club government not provided ior in the rules, but a mere school boy knows that it cannot add to or amend any rule, no matter how desirable, without a special motion passed by the Club C 3) The rules provide that new members shall be balloted for. May I ask whether any "ballot is taken for new members ? (4) At whose invitation are Sunday interclub games played ?_ Are such arrangements made through offi pjalchannels? If not*
or has not, a grave breach of club etiquette been committed? Apologising for ventilating my humble opinions, but believe me, sir, I am actuated by the highest motives, and with no ill-will towards any member. May I again subscribe myself A Mother's Son.
