METHODIST CHURCH.

The quarterly meeting of the Foxton Methodist Circuit was held ou Wednesday evening last, in the parsonage, Robinson Street. The following members were present : —Foxton, Rev T. Coatsworth (Chairman), Messrs G. K. Stiles (secretary), M. H. Walker, E. Walker, G. Honore, 8. Read, and Mrs Stiles ; Shannon, Rev N. Hyde, Messrs Gibson, Judd, and Mesdames Gibson and Judd, Owing to the Methodist union, several members were credentialled to other Methodist churches in the districts in which they now reside. Three names were added to the members’ roll. The finances of the church were shown to be in a healthy condition, there being a small balance in the treasurer’s hands after meeting all expenses. Permission was given to the Shannon members to hold the Sunday school anniversary during the quarter. The new school building at Shannon was opened during the quarter, all the expenditure having been met, and the enlargement opened without any debt remaining. The Hon. C. M. Luke, M.L.C., and Mr G. H. Stiles, have kindly consented to lay the foundation stones of the new church in Foxton, which function will take place on April 2nd. It was decided to hold an evangelistic mission in the new church shortly after the opening services. A sub committee consisting of the Rev T. Coatsworth and Messrs G. H. Stiles and M. H. Walker, was appointed to deal with thd finances and the closing of the circuit books by March 31st, so as to bring the time of holding the quarterly meeting into line with the other Methodist Churches of the Dominion. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mr Stiles and Mr Hyde in connection with their late bereavements, and to Mr M. H. Walker in connection with the serious illness of his daughter. All officials were reelected, and the next meeting was appointed to be held at Shannon on the first week in July. Refreshments were handed round, after which the meeting terminated with the Benediction.
