SOCIAL.
A very enjoyable social was held in the Presbyterian Sunday School on Thursday night. The Rev J. M. Thomson, M.A., occupied the chair. Much amusement and interest was created in the bird competition. A large number of those attending wore emblems representing the names of individual members of the feathered tribe, and some very clever and original sketches were submitted which taxed and baffled the ornithological skill of the audience. M’iss Miliar, by the narrow margin of one point, succeeded iu guessing the representations of the greatest number submitted- Miss Speirs was second. A capital vocal programme was submitted, aud much appreciated,A Special mention must be made in this connection of a male quartette by Messrs Wrigley, Buglass, Gelder aud Eongwortb, aud a trio by the three first named. Messrs Jenks and Buglass were equally successful in their vocal duets. Mrs Hall was in excellent voice, her numbers being re-demanded, and her duet with Miss McDonald was a very acceptable item. Messrs Hornblow and Yates contributed some humorous items, and Miss McDonald a pianoforte selection. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Wrigley and Misses Jenks and McDonald. The ladies of the congregation provided an abundance of tasty edibles, which needs no comment. The proceedings closed with the singing, of the National Anthem. It is the intention of the committee to hold another function at an early date.
