FOXTON SHANNON ROAD.
At Tuesday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council, the overseer reported that Mr Cooksley has completed one of his contracts for supplying and delivering metal on the Foxton-Sbaunon road, and is pushing ou with his second contract for supplying maintenance metal on this road. The overseer met Mrs Coley and discussed the condition of the road leading to her property, and she said it was not so much a question of the contractor’s horses grazing on the road as the approaches to the gate across the road, where the formation was worn into holes and made it almost impossible to reach the gates in bad weather. She also referred to the road being neglected, and thought the roadmau should pay a little attention to that road. I promised to send the roadman along as soou as possible, and have the holes and r|its filled in before the bad wither sets in. UPKEEP OF THE ROAD. TO BE SETTLED BY ARBITRATION. The Horowhenua County Council wrote. regretting its chairman could not attend the Council’s meeting, and suggesting the settling of the matter in dispute —■ that portion of the cost of upkeep be borne by the Horowhenua County —by means of arbitration. The question is concerning the maintenance of the Foxton-Shau-con road, which is much used by flaxmillers. After a good deal of desultory discussion, it was decided to write to the Horowhenua Council, agreeing to its suggestion for the appointment of arbitrators and an umpire to apportion the cost of repairs to the FoxtonShannon road.
