BOROUGH COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING.
A special meeting of the Borough Council was held last night tor the purpose of receiving tenders for the erection of strongroom, discussing question of sunlight in town hall and general. There were present: His Worship the Mayor (A. J. Gibbs Esq)., and Crs. Coley, Richmond, Whibley, Chrystall, Hannah, Speirs and Stewart.
There were no tenders received for the erection of strongroom and tenders are to l»e again called.
In connection with the sunlight in town hall, at the previous Council meeting the manager recommended that this should be replaced by an electrolier, to be supplied bv storage batteries. At that meeting it was decided that information as to cost, etc., should be obtained and submitted to the Council. Last night a letter was read from Mr S. Kirkland, electrician ot Palmerston North, stating that the installation would cost at least ,£IOO, and Councillors were ot opinion that this was rather too big an outlay and favoured further steps being taken in an endeavour to get the sunlight to work satisfactorily. It was mentioned that Mr Hawley, of Foxton, had stated that he could fix the sunlight and it was eventually decided on the motion of Cr Whibley, seconded by Cr Richmond, that Mr Hawley be asked if be would be willing to fix sunlight in town hall and what price he would be prepared to do the work for.
