SHANNON.
(Own Correspondent.)
The Shannon Dramatic Club’s production of “The Private Secretary,” was staged before a highly delighted and enthusiastic audience last week. The orchestra, under the direction of Miss Laurvig, provided some delightful incidental music. The performance netted something over £2O and after incidentals are paid the balance will be handed over towards the erection of a pavilion on the recreation ground. There was not a dull moment during the performance, the audience had made up its mind to embrace the Secretary. Mrs Terry and Miss McWilliam as “Eva Webster” and “Miss Marshland,” filled the roles of two coquettish damsels admirably, and their acting was most realistic. Mrs W. Norman and Mrs White were not lacking in any part of their performance, while Messrs Tilling, Perry, Trainer and Bovis kept the audience in roars of laughter from start to finish. It is the intention of the Society to stage “ The Black Flag ” shortly. Shannon should be really proud of its amateurs.
At tbe performance of “The Private Secretary ” last Wednesday evening, during an interval, Mr Stansell took advantage of the opportunity to address the audience and mounted the platform for that purpose. He desired to test the feeling of the public in regard to the Scott Relief Fund, apd after quoting the last words written by Captain Scott, which he read from a newspaper, tbe audience considered it had had enough, so it sang with deafening intensity Mr Stansell’s only and well-known song, “Bom Bom Bay,” after which Mr Stansell bowed his acknowledgements and left the stage.
