ALLEGED PERJURY.
Pahiatua, Feb. 20
Three young men, by the names of Farrell, Walter Hirst, and George Gregory, farmers at Konini, were charged yesterday, before Mr Poynton, S.M., with committing perjury in a local Court case in January. The charge arose out of a case wherein Farrell was fined by Mr Reid, S.M., for assaulting a Chinaman named Wong Jack. Hirst and Gregory were witnesses on that occasion, for the defence. Both Farrell and Hirst swore they were never in the Chinaman’s shop, and that Farrell never assaulted the Chinaman. The charge against Gregory was dismissed, but Farrell aud Hirst, who pleaded not guilty, vt ere committed for trial at the Masterton Supreme Court. Bail was allowed.
