SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the local State School Committee was held on Thursday evening. Present: — Messrs Barber, Betty, G. Coley, Franklaud, Henderson, Hussey and Speirs. Mr Frankland was voted to the chair.
The headmaster reported that the average attendance for last year was over 3ot, which again raised the school to Grade VIII. A. Mr Shane and Miss Woodford were transferred, and their places had been filled by Miss McHardie and Mr Burgess. Miss -Mary Collins had succeeded in passing the senior free place exam. Several minor repairs were asked for.
Mr Speirs was authorised to carry out the repairs, etc. The Secretary 'presented a balance-sheet of the school concert, which disclosed a profit of 9s. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Borough Council for the donation of £ lO , and to Mr Alf. Fraser for procuring the moving pictures free of cost from Messrs Fuller and Sous.
Accounts amounting to ,£ls 7 s qd were passed for payment. It was decided to procure dusters, and to ask the head teacher to have them hemmed by the scholars.
Mr Coley brought up the question pf the annual school picnic. It was decided to hold the picnic on the Ashhurst Domain on February 26th, and the Chairman and Messrs Betty and Coley were appointed a sub-committee to arrange details. Messrs Speirs and Betty were appointed visitors for the mouth.
