BREACHES OF SCAFFOLDING ACT.

At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the of Scaffolding proceeded against Thomas Ritnmer for permitting to be used a ladder that did not extend at least five feet beyond the level such ladder was intended to afford access to, aud also with setting up or erecting scaffolding over the height of 16 feet from the ground without first notifying in writing the Inspector of Scaffolding for the Wellington District. Mr Bolland, Inspector cf Scaffolding, briefly outlined the case, aud the defendant did not appear. The Magistrate said it was the first case of the kind locally, and no doubt the provisions of the Scaffolding Act were not generally known. Defendant was fined 20s, with costs 7s and witness’ expenses -£i 17s 2d on the first charge, and /'r, with 7s costs on the second.
