ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
THE DEADLY PEA-RIFLE.
Napier, Jan. 26.
At the inquest on the boy Murrow, killed by the accidental discharge of a pea rifle which he was cleaning, the Coroner added the following rider : “In view of the many serious accidents resulting from the use of firearms, it is expedient that further statutory limitations of the right to sell and use firearms, especially to and by young persons, be passed bv the legislature. Auckland, Jan. 27. Fred Burns, a middle-aged man, who kept the stables at Pukekobe, suicided by cutting his throat with a razor. It is understood the cause was business worry. Dunedin, Jan. 27. George Buou Partridge, aged 73, dropped dead at Raes Junction. Timaru, Jan. 26. A seat and an oar from the boat in which two men were washed to sea at the Raugitata river have been found on the beach. Auckland, Jan 27. C. Cline, a waterside worker, injured while unloading the cargo steamer Waihora, on Thursday, died in the hospital yesterday. Napier, Jan. 27.
A parly of amateur fishermen, comprising two sous of Mr Vigor Brown, F. Moeller, B. Martin, and others, had a trying experience last night. They went out iu the bay for a day’s fishing, and when several miles up the coast the motor broke down, and the launch was adrift all night, but fortunately the weather continued fine. The party were picked up by a trawler this morning and lowed into port.
