AGREEMENT AT WAIHI

Waihi, January 25

The conference between the mine-owners and the Ohinemuri mines and battery employees has concluded, and a satisfactory industrial agreement reached. Although the whole of the demands were not conceded, the men have got from 50 to 75 per cent, of the advance asked for in wages in various departments, and with the exception of some few small local bodies the minimum wage fixed is the highest in the Dominion. The surface workers’ minimum is 8s gd per shift, formerly 8s; underground workers 10s, formerly 9s.
