SLAUGHTERMEN’S STRIKE.
INCREASE OF WAGES CONCEDED AT MASTERTON.
Masterton, Jan. 26
As an outcome of the conference held yesterday between representatives of the Wellington Farmers’ Co-operative Meat Company (Masterton) and the Slaughtermen’s Uniou an agreement was arrived at by which the Waingawa works will remain open.
The agreement will be for three years, and will probably be registered under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act at a later date.
The company has agreed to pay 30s per hundred for sheep and lambs, and 2s 6d per bead for beef.
The slaughtermen abandoned their demand in regard to learners, as the agreement provides for one learner in every ten, as at present. The whole of the remaining conditions are similar to those that were previous!;, in existence. So far a» the local company is concerned, the company will not take sheep from the clients of other companies.
