SLAUGHTERMEN’S STRIKE.
Wellington, Jan, 24,
Sir George Clifford, chairman of the Conference of New Zealand Freezing Companies, iu a letter to the provincial secretary ot the Farmers’ Union at Palmerston N., referring to the resolution of that body approving of the action of the Freezing Companies iu connection with the slaughtermen’s demands, says it is satisfactory to note that the general feeling of members of the Union was that the companies had offered very liberal terms. It was their intention to offer terms as liberal as was consistent with the due performauce of the duties which they owe to the great industry of which they form an iniegral part, aud to the worker, whose assistance they fully recognise. The rejection of such terms was almost inconceivable, but il such an event should occur it was gratifying to know that the companies would have the support of the Farmers’ Uniou of the Wellington province.
