CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir. —Kindly allow me space in your columns to give the other side of the story why some artists who were down to appear at Miss Petersen’s concert at the Masonic Hall on Thursday night did not appear. A fair thing is generally expected of us all, I for one expect it, and I do not consider it at all fair to make out that we “backed out’’ at the last minute. I would also like it understood that it does not constitute a promise to appear just because “they” put your name down, especially when you see your name printed on the programme belore they even asked you whether you will or can appear. I think, if I may use the term, “this is the limit,” And now, on being approached about the matter and asked whether I would contribute, remember, this was after the programme had been circulated, I distinctly said that I was not free on that night, and I would have told anyone so had they asked me. Therefore, I cannot see that I, at least, made or broke any appointment with the Petersen Concert Co., believing however, as I do in the exercise of a little common courtesy and fairness at all times, —I am, etc.,
Charees Simmons.
