RAILWAY EXTENSION.
THE SANDON TO MARTON
PROPOSAL. At the Marton Borough Conncil meeting on Monday night, a letter was received from the clerk of the Mauawatu County Council to the effect that it is the intention of the Minister for Railways to visit Sandou to inquire into the question of the extension of the Sandon-Foxtou tramway to Marton, about the third week in January. The Hon. Herries proposes to travel by train from Foxtou to Pukeuui (near Bulls), where a car will take him on to Marton as nearly along the proposed extension route as possible. The Manawatu Council asked the Marton Borough’s co operation in impressing up*n the Minister the desire of the district to get leave to connect the tram line with the Government line at Marton.
Mayor Beckett said that he intended to interview the Minister on the matter, and he thought they would be able to impress upon the Hon. Herries the utility of connecting with Martou Junction instead of Greatiord. Topographically, Marton was much the better place to connect with,
