ASSAULT CASE.
At the local Police Court on Saturday afternoon, before Messrs Hennessy and Hornblow, J’s.P., C. Yates was charged by Robert Burnett with assault. Neither parties were represented by counsel. Accused pleaded guilty under provocation. Accused stated that complainant had teen spreading yarns about him. Burnett ' stated that Yates had come to his house and wanted to know what he had been saying about him. He denied certain allegations. Accused tried to induce individuals to get Burnett to come outside in order that he might deal with him. Burnett had occasion to go to Woodroofe’s butcher’s shop, and while there accused grabbed him by the throat, tore his clothes, and struck him. W. O’Brien gave evidence as to accused assaulting complainant, and separating them. Accused was fined £i and costs, in default forty-eight hours. One month was given in which to paj the fine.
