TO BECOME' OPERATIVE presently. A number of Acts passed last session did not become operative immediately after signature by the Governor as is usually the case. The Shipping and Seamen's Act is reserved for the Royal Assent* The Plumbers’ Registration Bill becomes operative on April i. The Government Railways Bill, increasing the salaries of certain grades of railway men, will also come into force on April i. The Public Service Bill as a whole will not take effect until April i, but the clauses under which the Commissioners are appointed, and the clauses prohibiting political influence, come into force on January x. The Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Act will be effective after March i. The Land Agents Registration Act is in force now, but for land agents in business registration is not obligatory until January i.
