JETTY AT THE HEADS.
Matters in connection with the proposed jetty at the Manawatu Heads were advanced a further stage at last night’s informal meeting of the Harbour Board. At a previous meeting it had been decided that upon receipt of the sum of £IOO from the householders at the Beach, the Board would call tenders for the work and would subsidise same up to ,£l5O, and would also endeavour to get the necessary rails from the Marine Department free of cost. The tenants afterwards stated they would endeavour to get the rails from the Department, and as a result the rails have been sent forward and now await delivery. Mr Holben, on behalf of the tenants, has since written to the Board stating that the value of the rails obtained was ,£35. and that now the tenants should only be asked to contribute ,£65 instead of £loo.
It was decided last night that Mr Holben be informed that provided ,£IOO is paid in, the Board will proceed with calling tenders and will adhere to the previous resolution to subsidise up to £l5O and in the event of the cost being less than £l5O the Beard will refund the cost of the rails—£lo.
