At last night’s Council meeting the Town Clerk's report was read as follows :—“The daymen have been engaged during the past month in cleaning rut the water cuannels in Clyde Street, Whyte Street, Avenue Road and Main Street, the latter twice during the month ; the drain pipes have now been laid across Coley .Street : holes have beer filled ’’i Spring S.r a and the /-■ A:iue Read ; the Triangle has been ...vice mowed and weeded ; the footpath in Avenue Road between Johnston and Spring Streets has been attended to and the water holes filled up ; a few trucks of shingle came to hand from Jackeyiown, some was put in the yard and what was suitable placed in Main Street. The men are at present engaged iu tarring the footpath iu the Avenue from Johnston Street to Main Street ; later I propose to tar the Main Street from the north end to the Post Office, I doubt if the south end will be fit to tar this summer owing to the fact that the traffic will not go on the crown sufficiently to crush same- Mrs Parkes was the lowest tenderer for new library books, at 2s lOd per vol. ; the ether prices being, H. I. Jones, of Wanganui, and Mrs A, M. Nye, each 3s The Library Committee met and selected 151 bocks, whicli have since been catalogued by the Librarian and placed upon the shelves in the Library and are now available to subscribers.
