METHODIST CHURCH.
The quarterly meeting In connection with the Foxton circuit was held at Shannon ou Wednesday afternoon. The following members were present: —Rev T. Coatsvvorth (chairman), MessrsG. H. Stiles (secretary), M. H. Walker, E- Walker, and S. Read representing Foxton; Rev. N. Hyde, Messrs Gibson, Judd, Petersen, and Mesdames Gibson, Carter and Judd, representing Shannon, The reports from the various portions oi the circuit showed that the work of the church was being successfully carried on. In Foxton, tbe work is hampered through having no church building, but that state of affairs will soou be passed, aud iu a new church worthy ol the district and of Methodism, the work will be more successfully carried ou. Permission was giveu to the Shanuou committee to erect a schoolroom at the rear ot the church, towards tbe cost of which most of the funds required are already in hand. A hearty welcome was extended to Mr W. Farmery, a local preacher from the Levin circuit, who is now residing iu Foxton. It was decided to establish a regular service at Raugiotu ou Sunday evenings. Twelve new members were added, four by transfer, aud eight by station agency. Five names (removals from tbe district) were removed from the roll, making a total membership for the circuit of 113. The financial returns were good, showing a balance in hand ou tbe quarter’s working. A small deficiency is carried over from the previous quarter. The Rev N. Hyde was granted a tortnight’s leave of absence, owing to tbe death of his father this week at Te Aroha. The Rev T. Coatsworth, Messrs G. H. Stiles aud E. J. Judd were elected delegates to the Primitive Methodist Conference. The Rev T. Coatsworlh aud Mr G. H. Stiles were appointed to represent the circuit at the conference of United Methodism which meets in Wellington on February 6th, All officials were re-elected. The next meeting of the circuit will be held in Foxton on the first Wednesday in March. In the evening, a public meeting was held iu the church, when there was a good attendance, aud a most helpful meeting was held. The Rev N. Hyde presided, and addresses were giveu by tbe Rev T. Coatsworth and Messrs G. H. Stiles aud E. J. Judd. Twenty new members were publicly received into church fellowship, the speakers addressing words of welcome and advice to them. A very harmonious aud profitable quarterly meeting was brought to a close at about q. 30 p.m.
