WAIHI STRIKE OFF.
Wellington, Dec. 1.
Mr J. Glover, secretary of the Federation of Labour, received on Saturday a telegram from the officials of the organisation in Auckland announcing that the Waibi strike had been declared off. The strike was first declared on May 15th. POSITION AT WAIHI MINES. Waihi, Nov. 30. Mr Rhodes, of the Waihi Company, when seen this morning, said he had been officially informed that the strike was off. A list of about four hundred workers, willing to return to Waihi, had been handed to the companies. It would certainly be impossible to find work for all or even half during the remainder of the year nor until the water in the lower levels had been pumped out, but the company had made a promise to give preference during the next days to married men with homes in Waihi being free to chose from the list, and those deemed most suitable for the company’s requirements. AFTER THE BATTLE. SEMPLE'S STATEMENT. Auckland, Nov. 30. The Labour Federation states it will support the strikers and their dependants until the breadwinners obtain work and all possibility of hardship is at an end. Mr R. Semple claims that the Federation has been strengthened by the fight. Labour is now solidified and knows the forces arrayed against them. It offers no apology for calling the Waihi strike off, and says that no self-respecting unionist could do otherwise than raise a fight against an attempt to organise a minority to act against the wishes ot the majority.
