BARTON’S CIRCUS.

A SPLENDID ENTERTAIN-

MENT.

Messrs Barton Bros., who are making their third tour of New Zealand with their circus and menagerie, which has been thoroughly re-organised, played to a Foxton- audience, last night. The .weather conditions were not ideal for a tent entertainment, but nevertheless the splendid reputation that the management has earned in their two previous visits to the town stood them in good stead, and there was a Very large audience in the tent when the time arrived to commence the show. The entertainment throughout was on a very high plane, , and easily eclipsed any programme of a similar nature previously seen locally. In order to provide patrons with the best going in their particular line, Messrs Barton Bros, have spared neither expense nor trouble in engaging the latest talent, and that their efforts were appreciated was amply shown by the applause that greeted the different items last night. One of the most conspicuous features of the show are the turns of Hanley, Marguerite, and Hanley—a lady and two gentlemen—whose exhibition of the gymnastic art was a revelation in muscular ability and grace. The performance by this trio was alone worth the prices charged for admission. Miss Kathleen Baker’s acf on the flying trapeze was a very fine one, the young lady demonstrating that in this class of performance she need take second place to none. Miss Mera Val gave a splendid display pi the use of stockwhips, and also provided an exhibition of trick cycle riding. Barberino, the juvenile contortionist, and the performances by the three Zingaras in their burlesque Chinese acrobatic feats were deservedly applauded. To mention all the items on the very excellent programme submitted would take up too much space, but the whole of them were well received, and the general opinion expressed after the performance was that it was the best show of its kind that has yet visited Foxton. Should they make another visit to Foxton, Messrs Barton Bros, can rely on a big. house.
