CAMERA CLUB
A meeting of the Foxton Camera Club was held in Mr Per reau’s rooms on Thursday, when there was a good and enthusiastic attendance. Mr John Ross was voted to the chair.
The subject of the evening was an address by Dr Adams on “Apparatus.” The speaker dealt with the subject in a manner which displayed a sound grasp of the many uses of the various parts, of the camera and accessories. The speaker commenced with a description of, and the necessity for, the portion of the camera known as the box, or light-proof chamber, and then described iu detail the formation of the image on the sensitive plate through the action of light rays reflected from the object in front of the instrument. He imparted a very clear knowledge of the principle of the pin-hole camera, and iu doing so revealed the reason of the inverted image on the photographic plate. The speaker also described by means of diagrams, the construction of various types of lenses, from the single convex lens to the compound stigmatic air-gap leus of quite moderu construction. The address also covered the uses of the various movements attached to the usual types of cameras, such as the rising and cross front, and swing-back. At the conclusion of his address, Dr Adams was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his interesting and instructive address. It was decided that the next meeting be held in the Presbyterian Hall on Thursday, 21st November, the subject of the evening to be a discourse on plates, papers, and chemicals, their special uses and adaptability, to be delivered by Mr E. Huutlev. The subject of “Exposure” was set down for the subsequent meeting, to be dealt with by Mr Teviotdale.
