ENTERTAINMENTS.
SOCIAL, AND CONCERT
Another very successful concert was held in All Saints’ schoolroom on Tuesday evening, under the auspices of the Ladies’ Guild. Despite the inclemency of the weather, the attendance was very good, the room being comlortably filled. The programme, which was arranged by Mr R. T. Betty, was a particularly good one and was much appreciated by the audience. The programme included a number of glees by Mr Betty’s party, songs by Misses Signal and King, Messrs A. Rammer, Prosser, Cook, Collins, Buglass, and Longworth, and recitations by Messrs Hornblow and Whibley. Mr C. Simmons contributed a violin solo and Mr Hornblow a musical monologue. A novel item was the bar exhibition by Mr Longworth, who displayed great skill in manipulating the iron rod. During the evening a tasty supper, provided by the ladies of the parish, was handed round. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable entertainment to a close.
PICTURE SHOW. “ Attacked by a Lion,” ; danger and realism, lite or death —this remarkable film is coming to Foxton on Saturday night. One cannot see “Attacked by a Lion” without experiencing something of the tremendous thrills of excitement felt by big game hunters. Never before has such a splendid picture close up to the camera been taken ot a ferocious wild untamed lion, and the courage of the participators in this scene is remarkable, making one ot the most daring and sensational pieces of realism ever before attempted. This is no well-trained beast going through a performance nor is there any trick of photography—nothing can exceed the magic spell of the scene unless it is the relief that comes with the lion’s death. Another top liner is “ The Humble Hero,” the dramatic story of a dog’s devotion to his master. A Selig western feature with a huge hound as the central figure. See the greatest race ever screened between the mounted bandit and tha faithful hound, and then see this marvellous animal lead a band of cowboys at full speed to his master’s rescue and also showing the “ Story of Little Boy Blue” and “ Rice and Old Shoes.” A topical film will show “The Royal Ascot of 1912,” a very fine scenic of Freiburg. The comedies and comics are a first class lot including “ Chinston Wurchill’s Experiment,” “Is Life Expensive,” “ The Honeymooners,” and “The Naughty Boy’s Exploits.” We can safely say that all who witness this programme will be delighted with all the subjects depicted.
