PROPOSED CAMERA CLUB.

There is a movement afoot locally among amateur photographers to form a camera club in Foxton. It is rather surprising to note the number of persons who follow, to a greater or lesser degree, this fascinating hobby, and already about twenty amateurs have signified their willingness to help in the formation of such a club. A meeting will be held during next week, when all arrangements will be made for its future working, aud as the scope of camera work covers a wide and most attractive field of subjects—a field incomprehensible to the lay mind —there should be no trouble in arranging a most attractive programme for the coming season. The advantages ot a camera club are many, and perhaps it would be helpful to those who are considering the question of becoming members to make some brief suggestions as to the manner in which such an institution would be helpful. One of the first cou-daeralious of such a club should ue i.ie free tuitiou ot novices who become members, so as to stimulate the membership. Those photographers more proficient in the various branches, suen as tentative negative development, intensification, and reduction, bromide and gaslight printing aud toning, lantern slide making, the application of the camera to the best advantage in the taking of various subjects, the control aud necessity of proper lighting, and the thousand and one absorbing processes connected with the production of creditable photographs, should deliver addres es and, as often as possible, give practical demonstrations, on the various branches.

Space will not permit ot the mention of all the pleasures and advantages derived irom such a club, and they can only be fully appreciated by those who have had the good fortune to come in contact with one. Another side ot the question is the fact that periodical competitions could be arrauged among the members, which would reveal the best workmanship of the club. Like similar clubs, outings could be arranged on holidays, thereby making the pastime as healthful as it is interesting. The night and place of meeting will be advertised in Tuesday’s issue.
