BOWLING.
OFFICIAL OPENING. The local bowling green was officially opened yesterday by the president of the club, Mr Thomas Rimmer. The weather was fine, and there was a good attendance of both members and the general public. Visitors were present from the Shannon, Palmerston N., Terrace End, Levin and Otaki clubs. The president in opening the green referred to the good work of the caretaker, Mr Spring, who had got the grounds into really good conditions. He called upon Miss Rimmer io roll up Lne first bowl and Mrs Wilchell to make the first shot ou the croquet lawn, after which he formally declared the green and croquet lawns open. During the afternoon lour rinks ot the green were in use and one ot the croquet lawns was occupied by the ladies. Afternoon lea, iu abundance was supplied road . appreciated Tfi- bau-.0. Inc goodo le* : .om the recent carnival, were offered for sale during the alteraoon, and at the close all unsold were disposed of by Dutch auction. Dr Adams wielded the hammer, and the goods realised satisfactory prices.
If the success of the opening is any criterion, the ensuing season should be a particularly good one.
The ladies committee and general committee, headed by the energetic secretary, are to be congratulated upon the success of the function, which was favourably commented on on all sides.
